This March, we’re joining our Lead PreK Teacher at Fair Oaks, Desiree, in her fight to help children with muscular dystrophy. The fundraiser will be both a friendly competition and a lesson in helping others. Please read more about why this cause is so close to Desiree’s heart and how you can help…
Every day, kids are born with muscular dystrophy and adults are diagnosed with ALS and related diseases that take away their most basic freedoms – the freedom to walk, talk, hug, and even breathe.
I’m participating with the MDA Muscle Walk of Greater Washington on Saturday, May 6, 2017 to fight for those freedoms – helping kids and adults to live longer and grow stronger – and I need your help. My name is Desiree and I am the lead PreK/VPI teacher for Sparkles! at Fair Oaks and my son, Derricke, has Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy, so this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart.
With the help of Sparkles! employees and the wonderful parents that you are, we would like to sell green shamrocks for $1.00 and gold for $5.00. We can only accept cash or checks made out to MDA. You can buy as many as you want. We are making this fundraiser a friendly competition between classrooms; the shamrocks will be displayed on the windows and doors of your child’s classroom, and the wining class will have a party to celebrate.
Teachers are being given an incentive too: I will personally buy lunch for the employees of the Sparkles! location which raises the most money. Our goal is to send at least one kid to camp, which costs $2,000. To purchase a shamrock please visit the front desk at your Sparkles! When the competition is over and I hand the money to my MDA representative you will see on my personal Muscle Walk page how much your center raised.
Thank you in advance for joining me as I fight for everyday freedoms for my son with muscular dystrophy – you will help him live longer, and grow stronger.
P.S. Please help spread the word. You are welcome to join our team and to walk with us. Also, don’t forget to forward this to your friends and colleagues, and ask your social media friends and followers for their support as well. Thank you!
